At WellBe we don’t use refined palm oil, palmolein oil, hydrogenated fat and interesterified fat, often used to make savoury snacks, cakes and more.

Studies have documented that consumption of refined oil can have adverse effects of heart health.

The process of making and refining these types of oils, which involves the use of heat and chemicals, leads to the formation of PUFAs (rancid polyunsaturated fatty acids) which DO NOT hold up well to high heat. 

In the process of being extracted from the seed, these oils oxidise and turn into trans fats, which when consumed, raise the bad cholesterol in our body. The smell is so rancid the cleaning process undertaken uses bleach to deodorize it. The entire process of refining leads to severe nutritional loss in the oil.

At Wellbe, we don’t use synthetic antioxidants like Tertiary Butylhydroquinine (TBHQ), Butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA) and Butylated hydroxytoluene (BHT), added to food products to prevent oxidation and preserve the food for longer.

At WellBe, we have said no to artificial colours – Blue 1 Brilliant Blue, Blue 2 Indigo Carmine, Citrus Red 2, Green 3 Fast Green FCF, Orange B, Red 3 Erythrosine, red 40 Allura Red, Yellow 5 Tartrazine and Yellow 6 Sunset Yellow.

Artificial colours are derived from petroleum and are found in thousands of foods. In particular, they are used in breakfast cereals, candy, snacks, beverages, vitamins, and other products.

What looks good though, may not be so good for you! Studies have suggested that the consumption of artificial colours may increase inflammation, disrupt the functioning of the immune system, cause hypersensitivity, especially in children and may be carcinogenic.

Studies suggest that artificial flavours could have a wide variety of side effects ranging from headaches, fatigue, and nausea to chest pain, dizziness, an increased risk of cancer and even seizures.
